
“FIFA Reports Record $2.35 Billion Spent on Men’s Soccer Transfers in January 2025”
Clubs around the world spent a record-breaking $2.35 billion on international transfers in men’s soccer during the January 2025 transfer window, marking an impressive 58% increase compared to the previous year, according to FIFA’s latest International Transfer Snapshot published on Friday.
This figure also surpasses the previous record set in January 2023, which saw a total of $1.57 billion spent, representing a 47.1% increase. The report also highlights that 5,863 international transfers were made between January 1 and February 4, 2025, a 19.1% increase over the previous record for the highest number of players making moves in a single January transfer window.
English football clubs led global spending on international transfers in January, with a total expenditure of $621.6 million.
Manchester City, the current Premier League champions, were the biggest spenders, investing over $224 million to secure top talents such as Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Juma Bah.
The highest-profile transfer in January was Colombian forward Jhon Durán, who made a move from Aston Villa to Saudi Arabian powerhouse Al-Nassr for approximately €77 million ($79.97 million), excluding potential add-ons.
According to FIFA’s report, Germany, with a total of $295.7 million, ranked second, followed by Italy at $223.8 million, France at $209.7 million, and Saudi Arabia at $202.1 million. These nations rounded out the top five countries for international football transfer spending in January 2025.
